Wow! Walmart to the rescue. Thanks for the feedback Tom. I'll get it a
try myself.
Did you lose your previously licensed music?

Guess what? I actually tried the Walmart solution and it worked!!
I really had to do something as MS Media Player wasn't letting me play ANY
of my music.
Thanks for the tip.

Hi TomTraveler...
I still haven't solved this problem. Microsoft's people say the fix screen
button works for them. Yet, it doesn't work for me. It's grayed out. Two of
my friends get the same gray non-working button.
Dell may have cofigured my computer to avoid known Microsoft hazards like
Active X and the DRM folder. The DRM folder appears to be exploitable by
hackers based on what I've read on the web.
Interestingly, Walmart's on-line music download people recommended a fix
that I haven't used yet. They recommend renaming the DRM folder to OLDDRM
which, they say, will force Windows Media Player to create a new,
uncorrupted DRM folder. The downside is that any licensed music in the
OldDRM folder will be unusable. You'll have to negotiated with the music
sellers to reestablish the licences.
With all this hassle, I've lost interest in buying music online. One thing
I'd like to know...can I load online licensed music onto my MP3 player
without a huge hassle? That was my original goal.
Here's the blurb Walmart sent me:
Maybe this solution is more elegant than the one Microsoft offers, the
software giant whose grayed out fix button has me totally stymied and
P.O.'d.

Dear Richard:
We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. To work around this
issue, we need to restore the DRM system to a "clean" state on the affected
computer. Please follow the below steps carefully before re-licensing your
music:
Restore the DRM System to a Clean State
Warning: If you have previously purchased music from Wal-Mart, Liquid Audio,
Napster 2.0 or any other music portal, you must backup your licenses before
proceeding.
Note: if the backup fails due to the DRM store being corrupt beyond repair,
you will lose their licenses acquired from those music vendors and will have
to work with those vendors again to recover that music.
To Back-up Licenses Through Windows Media Player
a.. On the Tools menu, click on the License Management option.
b.. Click the Change button, click a folder that you want to store backup
copies of your licenses to, and then click OK. -or-
c.. Click the Browse button, click a folder that you want to store backup
copies of your licenses to, and then click Make New Folder.
d.. In the License Management dialog box, click Back Up Now.
Delete Corrupted DRM? Folder
a.. Close all Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player windows
b.. Rename the DRM folder to OLDDRM so that the corrupt folder will not be
used by Windows Media Player and a new DRM directory will be created on the
next attempt to acquire your licenses.
Note: the DRM folder is a hidden system folder. To view this folder:
a.. Open My Computer
a.. Go to Tools ? Folder Options
a.. Click the View Tab
a.. Select "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
a.. Check "Display Contents of System Folders"
a.. Uncheck "Hide Extensions for Known file types"
a.. Uncheck Hide Protected Operating Systems Files"
a.. Click OK
c.. The typical location of the DRM folder is based on your Operating
System...
a.. In Microsoft Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM
b.. In Microsoft Windows 2000: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM
c.. In Microsoft Windows 98: C:\Windows\All Users\DRM
d.. In Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me): C:\Windows\DRM
Check for Windows Media Player Updates
a.. Check for updates for your Windows Media Player (we recommend Windows
Media Player 9 or greater). If you are not sure what version you have,
please click here.
b.. To download the latest version of Windows Media Player, click here.
Proceed with the Individualization of Windows Media Player by opening the
following link in Internet Explorer 6 and follow all instructions
a.. http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp?force=1
Note: If you receive a License Acquisition Screen Not Available, click
Cancel then proceed to the next screen and click Upgrade Complete to finish
b.. Restore the backed up licenses (if backup was successful) in Windows
Media Player by clicking License Management on the Tools menu.
Note: that this step requires a connection to the Internet.
Acquire New Licenses
a.. Remain on-line and open each track in Windows Media Player to acquire
the licenses.
b.. After acquiring all of your licenses, backup your licenses using
Windows Media Player to a floppy disk, USB flash drive, USB hard drive or
other external storage media.
c.. Use Windows Media Player to burn your music to an audio CD.

I have had the same problem and I don't think I ever did anything to
deserve
it. You described my experience exactly.
Were you ever able to correct it.

Thanks Gary, but there is no yellow info bar, something I often see. The
page
comes with an "Error on page" alert. There's an "incorrect paremeter"

Did you allow the ActiveX component to install/run (via the yellow

If not, the button will be grayed out.

Re Article 891664:
When I download licensed Music, I get the Secure Storage Protection
error.
I'm using Windows XP Media Edition 2004.
Since I've made no hardware or BIOS changes, I have followed steps 3
through
5 from Article 891664.
Sadly, when I arrive at the Windows Link to UPGRADE my Windows DRM
folder
and solve my problem, the UPGRADE button is grayed out. I've had
friends
check the same link and they get the grayed button.
Here's the link: http://go.microsoft.com/FWLink?LinkID=34506
So what gives??? Please advise. I've bought music I can't use and I'm
very
unhappy.
