Do you connect directly to the cable modem, or do you have a router/firewall
in the middle?
It would be possible to get network drivers if you knew which network
adapter you have...if it's on the motherboard, find out which model
motherboard you have and visit its manufacturer's web site. If you have an
add-on board, find out which manufacturer and model and visit their web
site. In either case, the web site should have the latest XP drivers for it.
Download and run to install them. Then reboot before you try again. But I
don't think new drivers will help...
When it started failing, had you installed any new software or hardware
right before that?

I did cycle power my cable modem (30 mins, overnight), but did not help. I
also have Fedora Core 4 Linux installed on the same desktop and the
internet
works fine there. Thats why I thought, it might have to do with windows
media
center/drivers.
Please help.
Thanks.

Since you appear to be able to reach your cable modem (or router,
whichever
gives out the IP address), the problem is not in your network card or
drivers. I'd suggest you cycle power on your cable modem and/or router
and
see if that helps.

I have an AMD-Athlon x86-64 Desktop with Windows Media Center 2005. Two
days
back, all of a sudden I was not able to connect to the internet even
though
ipconfig gives out an ipaddress. I also have a laptop which was
connected
to
the same cable modem and the internet is working fine in that.
tracert with site name times out all the time, but with ipaddress goes
2
hops and then times out. I am just confused as to what is the problem
here.
Do I have to update my network driver and if so how do I get it?
Any help is geatly appreciated.
Thanks.
