Re: Session Terminated 360 to MCE

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Your system properties are normal.

When you performed the update and were prompted for the XP disk, what did
you do? (cancel the update?)

The file you sent is also showing up as not signed; I'd still like to
double-check with a zipped version. To zip mcrmgr, right click it, mouse
over "Send To" and select "Compressed (zipped) folder". This will create a
file called mcrmgr.zip. Please rename the .zip file to mcrmgr.txt and
e-mail it to the same address.

mcrmgr sent 3/22 about 9:00am.

I didn't install media center myself, it came preloaded on my pc. The disk
supplied by Dell says windows media center 2005. However I did have a
major
system crash and had to format the hard drive and reload from scratch
using
the Dell disk.

I can tell you that I find it interesting that when you ask the system
what
the OS is it says under system properties that I'm running media center
edition version 2002 service pack 2 where as if I actually run the media
center software and check the version, it says 2005.

Other Microsoft sources tell me that the os is simply XP with the media
center software on top of it and that what the system properties says is
normal??

Recently I thought I would do a "dirty" reinstall of the OS, so I put in
the
disk and said update my system (versus a clean install). I was then asked
to
put in the windows xp disk (not the dell supplied dell media center 2005
disk
to go forward with the "update". and, of course, I don't have any such
thing.
All I was given is the one dell disk (which works for a clean reinstall)?

To my knowledge/recollection, I have never installed a beta version of
media
center or of the extender software. But?? I've done many updates and
patches
since I got the system a little over a year ago.

All I did with the mcrmgr.exe was change it's name and attach it to this
email. When you say "zip" it, what do you mean? Am I supposed to try and
run
it first? I.e. am I supposed to send you the results of running mcrmgr? if
so, how? When I try and run it, the system logs me off as a user and then
I
can log back on, but no results or anything else happens.

That's really weird... your mcrmgr does not appear to be valid. Couple
questions:
1) Did you install Media Center yourself or did it come preloaded on
your
PC? If you installed it yourself, where did you install it from? If it
came preloaded on your PC, which version of Media Center did your PC
originally come with? (e.g. v1, 2004, 2005)
2) Have you ever installed a beta version of Media Center or Media
Center
Extender software on this PC?

Also, to double-check that it wasn't corrupted in transit, can you zip
up
your mcrmgr, rename the .zip to .txt, and e-mail it again?

mcrmgr.txt sent 3/14

When you say disable firewall, in my case Norton Internet Security, do
you
mean disable or unistall 100% as that is obviously more painful by
far.

There's nothing immediately obvious in your logs, but I would be

Also, please forward a copy of mcrmgr.exe from your Media Center PC

it goes directly to the contacting and then the standard
"session
terminated"
screen. I tried a new setup and 8 digit code. As soon as I
entered
the
code
and hit "next", I then ran the 50+ feet to my home
theatre/xbox360
and
all
I
saw (it had been on screen showing the 8 digit number) was
media
center
contacting followed by "session terminated" I never see
the
start
page. I
then went ahead and did the network performance test and
it
passed,
but
also
caused the xbox360 which had been saying session
terminated to
the
media
contacting screen and then the sessoin terminated screen.
Now
when
I
started
the media externder manager and tried to run the network
performance
test,
it
didn't work, saying it might be off or etc.

Thanks for the trace; a couple follow-up questions:
1) If you turn your Xbox 360 on and press the green

on
the

does it ever show the Media Center Start page, or does
it go
directly
from
Contacting to the Session Terminated screen?
2) If you go through the set up process again (typing in
the
8-digit
code)
and look at your Xbox 360 immediately after it says
installation
is
complete
(and _before_ running the network performance tuner
bandwidth
test),
does
the Xbox 360 display the Media Center Start page?
