Re: Cannot ping MCE machine

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

On 3/16/2006, cgmjr managed to type:
I have MCE 2005 on my laptop. I'm in a small home network. The other two machines are running XP Home. From the MCE Laptop I can see the other XP Home machines and access their shares. The XP Home machines can see my MCE laptop when Viewing Workgroup Computers, but neither of them can access the MCE laptop's shares. In fact, they cannot ping the MCE laptop. They can resolve the MCE's Computer name to the correct ip address.

Symantec has bee completely uninstalled. The MCE's Windows Firewall has been disabled. The Firewall / Router has no rules that apply.

I'm stuck. My son wishes to plan some Warcraft III over our LAN, but our machines won't talk.

Help?

For the shares to work between two computers, both computers need to have a user account with the same name and the same password...

I've had the problem, and I've solved it by adding such an account to the new computer.

If you already knew this and did it, I am mystified.

HTH,
Gino
