Re: Xbox 360 Setup error - dvcconn.log below

Hi Todd,

The group was already there, though it didn't contain any users though.

I have carried out the basic troubleshooting steps - full uninstall of the
extender, and also disabled AV software (and the Windows Firewall). The
extender uninstall removed the group plus any registry entries. I ran the
manual setup (the "Lite" installer) and although it crashed the dvcsetup log
indicated it worked and a restart was not required. Went through a setup
process via the Extender Manager and its working OK now. Interestingly it
complained that because Windows Firewall was disabled setup could not
continue - is that expected?

I'm a little scared to go troubleshooting now that it is working, but I'll
press on and let the community know which package was causing the issue (my
suspicion is McAfee AV Enterprise w/ Anti-Spyware module). Do you have a list
of know-good AV packages?

Now that it is working I have to say its very impressive. If only there was
support for xVid/Divx :-) (is that a technical or marketing-led limitation?
;-)

Regards,

Alan

If you manually create a user group called "MCRD Users" what happens? (right

Group, select New Group...)

I have a PC running MCE2005 with Rollup2 and all latest updates pulled
down.
My PC and Xbox360 are on the same wired network (via a router)
I can connect from my 360 to the PC via Windows Media Connect to browese
music/pictures. However, when I run the Extender setup I get an error
message.

I've checked the registry and there is a device ID stored there for the
360

I've gone through the steps of removing the save from the 360 HD and
re-running setup but get the same error. Doesn't make any difference
whether
the Xbox is having an address assigned via DHCP from my router or whether
I
have a fixed IP

Setup seems to fail at the point of creating a user account according to
dvcconn.log. At the point it fails the Xbox screen has switched to the
black
screen with the Windows MCE logo - it stays there for a few minutes and
times
out saying it can't find an MCE PC. Subsequent attempts to reconnect also
fail

For some reason I can't ping my 360 IP from my PC - is that normal? I can
ping other devices on my LAN (NAS, Laptop, main PC, etc.)

I have temporarily switched off McAfee Enterprise AV and also Windows
Firewall (stopped the services via the Services tool in Control Panel),
and
they definitely aren't running in Task Manager

However, it doesn't seem to make any difference if I run it from the PC

One final thing - I haven't validated this copy of MCE yet but it still
has
several days left before expiry.
