that's definitely not right. can you do a complete factory reset of
the router and then go in and immediately try to reconfigure the
802.11a side first? you should have a choice of channels.

Version 2.38 is the current firmware.

I went into router configuration, turned 802.11a back on. Channel auto
select was checked, so I unchecked that, clicked the drop-down box, but
channel 52 was the only selection there.

Let me know what firmware you've been using.

One other thing, try changing the channel on the 802.11a side - I
remember vaguely some weird behavior when using one3 of the channels
(can't remember which)

Yes, this has been going on for about one month. Up until then, I had been
running the same media center extender and notebook adapter since April '05
with few problems. I have made no network changes, which is one reason this

can be running G only, but when I go back into configuration and enable the A

pc. The connection will be ok for anywhere from minutes to an hour, and is
lost again.

When I have a connection running both A and G, here's what the router lights
are doing:

Power - on
status - blinking
wan - blinking
11a - blinking
11g - blinking
Local port 1 - on, 2-4 off

When I disconnect:

power - on
status - off
wan - on steady/not blinking
11a - off
11g - off
Local ports 1-4, all are on and steady, port 1 is the only one used.

The D-Link support summary e-mailed to me follows:
- Informed that he has all four port lights lit
- Informed that WAN, WLAN not lit
- Inquired as to whether he has had and power outages within his area
- Informed that he has not
- Checked for a vaild IP address (169.254.x.x)
- Advised to obtain a paper clip in order to perform a reset on the router
(10 secs)
- Checked the lights on the router (WAN, WLAN not lit, all four ports lit)
- Advised to connect his router into another power outlet (done)
- Checked the lights on the router (good)
- Checked for a default gateway address (192.168.0.1)
- Advised to connect an ethenet cable into WAN port and port 1 (done)
- Checked the lights on the router (WAN and port 1 lit)
- Inquired as to what device is running on the wireless A network
- Informed that he has a Linksys WMCE-54AG
- Advised to connect his computer back into port 1 (done)
- Advised to connect his modem into WAN port (done)
- Checked the lights on the router (WAN and port 1 lit)
- Logged onto the router 192.168.0.1 (success)
- Disabled 802.11a mode (done)
- Suggested to monitor the light activity on his network if the problem
persist
