To JW's list of "possible problems":
1. Could be - I haven't been able to confirm Y or N
2. The TV tuner card is MCE certified and I'm using the most current drivers
available per VisionTek and ATI - these SHOULD be MCE drivers.
3. As stated previously, I installed the NVIDIA PureVision Decoder (MCE
certified) and verified it is selected as the default decoder using the
Windows Decoder Utility.
4. I do not know how to verify whether or not I have RU2, though Windows
Update states all is current. However, I attempted to install the hotfix in
the link and received the following error (complete log):
[KB912067.log]

Thanks for the suggestions. Any other ideas?

I beleive that you are getting an error description that is commont to.
several possible problems as follows.
1. Your graphics card card/driver does not support DX9 output.
2. You are using regular Windows drivers for your tuner card and not the MCE
compatible drivers.
3. You do not have a MCE compatible DVD Decoder installed and selected as
the preferred decoder.
4. You have upgraded to MCE 2005 RU2 and need additional updates such as the
following

Thanks for the info.
The GeForce4 Ti 4200 has 64MB DDR onboard and states it has Direct-X API
support, but not sure how sufficient that is. I have access to an NVIDIA
5500 model w/128MB, but may go ahead and upgrade further.
As I suspect, however, doing so may solve my DVD viewing problems, but can
anyone provide some suggestions on the TV tuner error messages? They
would
appear unrelated to graphics card compatibility issues, but they're so
vauge
that it's difficult to tell.

Unless you have a graphics card has 64MB of onboard memory and which with
its drivers supports DVX9 decoding you can not use it with it MCE Some
users have been able to use old cards like the one you have but most have
had to upgrade to more capable cards with more onboard memory. Also be
sure
that you are using the most recent XP/ MCE drivers for your card which
are
the 81.98 drivers drivers from the NVIDIA Website.

I recently performed a fresh install of XP w/MCE 2005, upgraded my sound
card
and purchased the VisionTek Xtasy ATI Theater 550 Pro TV tuner card. I
installed the most current drivers for my NVIDIA GeForce4 graphics card
and
PowerDVD with the most current patch. XP MCE is up-to-date according
to
Windows Update. Made sure I had the newest TV tuner drivers from both
VisionTek and ATI (use Catalyst drivers).
I set up the 5.1 sound just fine in MCE, but could not get DVDs to play
or
my TV tuner card to get a signal. Downloaded and ran the WinXP Video
Decoder
Checkup Utility and found I didn't have a supported MPEG2 decoder.
Installed
the NVIDIA PureVision DVD Decoder (MCE certified) and it's now my
default
decoder. Tried a DVD in Media Center again and it appeared to try to
play,
but at first my screen just went black and I heard a bunch of the
"beeps"
within MC, I hit "DVD Menu" on my MCE remote and then heard music from
the
menu, but still a black screen. I finally had to bring up Task Manager
and
kill Media Center to get back to Windows normally.
When I go to set up my TV in MC I now get two errors staing "Files
cannot
be
found...some files needed to play audio and video either cannot be
found
or
are corrupted, try restarting." I go beyond that and get the "Tuner
unavailable" message.
Can anyone please provide some help/suggestions? I just had a new STB
installed in my office for this sole purpose, but can't get anything
but
audio to play. I'm thinking I may have two separate problems here - #1
getting DVD to play correctly; #2 getting TV tuner recognized and
receving
a
signal.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated!
