Thanks for the info. I will show the wife and hope the heat dies down :-).
I am very surprised MS are not digging into this stuff as it is not doing
the credability of MCE any good. Hoem entertainment is plug and play for
people who do not want to become a computer technocrat. I have never been
asked by a TV engineer to remove the back and replace some of the chips!
My company are OEM partners with MS and I will be passing this thru our
internal channels to see if I can get more info. If I do I will post it here;

I have not noticed any "digital" channels (Sky) disappearing from my
guide. There are several channels where the data is missing but it has
never been there. Some of these absences were reported several months
ago. Microsoft and BDS are doing sweet FA to remedy these oversights
despite several reports here and through the proper error reporting
tool.
If you want to set up recordings manually it is quite possible....
- My TV;
- Recorded TV;
- Add Recording;
- Channel and Time
- Set it up just like a VCR, but you get to name the programme too :-)
While we're on the subject of missing channel data, when are we going
to see data for Sky channels....
108 - Sky 3
114 - Living TV 2
128 - Paramount Comedy +1 (+0 data is there, just add an hour, you
muppets)
188 - Reality T V+1 (+0 data is there, just add an hour you muppets)
256 - UKTV G2 + 1 (+0 data is there, just add an hour, you muppets)
271 - FX +2 (+0 data is there, just add two hours, you muppets)
286 - More4 + 1 (+0 data is there, just add an hour you muppets)

I have MCE 2005 R2 with latest patches in the UK. Worked fine before XMAS but
for the last 2 weeks I have lost a lot of Digital channels and the guide
regularly comes up with no data. Start/end times appear wrong as recordings
get cut off. Channel 4 has gone and ITV1 and 2 go west every few days. All I
seem to be doing now is re-setting up the TV and guide to see if I can get
the guide data. Without a manual way to add data or set up recordings I am
stuffed. I am so fed up with it now that I have brought my TV and DVD
recorder back into the lounge! That is TRUE plug and play. Just switch it on
and it does exactly what it says on the can.
WIth over 6.5 million copies of MCE sold in 2005 I would expect Microsoft to
be getting it fix by now. They obviously have not thought of thew bad press
this is giving them. I would not suggest MCE to anyone as it is too flaky to
set up and maintain. The lack of help coming from Microsoft as it is an OEM
product is not helping their cause either.
COme on MS get your act together!
