Well, it's a drastic solution but at least you're up and running. I got a
6000 last summer with XP Home on it...I promptly nuked the hard drive and
installed MCE 2005 on it. I don't yet have a USB tuner, but otherwise it
works great. Nice little machine.

I finally got through to Dell's Media Center support, I ended up having to
do a clean install. Seems there was some kind of conflict with CyberLink
PowerDVD software.
At least now I know how to do a clean Xp MCE install. Anyone trying to do
it, make sure you have all the CD's on hand, it can't be done with out the
PowerDVD and Sonic MyDVD software, at least with a Dell system XP MCE 2005
DVD.

Well, given the minimum warranty for a 6000 is 3 months, they definitely
should fix it. I assume they're still sending your support calls to
India, so I can see why it might be a problem (that plus the fact that
they're not MCE users probably and have no idea what they're doing). Dell
is definitely the one who should be doing the support, not Microsoft.
About all I can do is tell you to hang in there and keep trying the magic
words "escalate to a supervisor". If that still has problems, you might
try calling Dell's sales in Austin (at least you'll get someone who
speaks American English) and tell them you're not getting satisfaction
from their India support team and want some American support. Maybe that
will help...

I have a new I6000 less than 6 weeks old with a new hard drive installed
2 weeks ago, I recheck the drivers for the tv tuner, its a usb model from
Dell, all things check that it's working in the device manager. Its ON
button lights up when plugged in.
I honestly believe its a corrupt file somewhere in the Media Center
program. I did a system restore (accessories, system restore) not related
to this problem and that when the problem started.
Dell support, pardon my language is a F#&King Nightmare, I've been online
and on the phone all morning and haven't gotten no were but given the
wrong info or cut off. I honestly believe they don't know what the Hell
they are doing. I was told it was a Microsoft problem and to contact
them, if you go to the Microsoft site it says to contact the computer
manufacture for support. duh!
I tried to do a pc restore by using the F11+Ctrl keys at the Dell splash
only to discover there is no restore function associated with the F11 key
on my computer.
Im beginning to think I might have to do a fresh install.

If your computer is still under warranty and you're using the original
Dell OS and software, then they shouldn't be trying to charge you for
the support. Tell them to "escalate to a supervisor" and see what he
says...
If it all worked once but doesn't now, I'd suggest reinstalling the
tuner drivers (it's an external USB tuner, I assume). If that doesn't
help, maybe your tuner has gone bad and should be replaced...
Out of curiosity, which laptop is it? 6000? 9300?
