No, but you'll be able to create slide shows and burn them to DVDs
*outside* of MCE.
It's a two-step process, with Photo Story 3 used to create a .wmv
of the slide show, and NeroVision Express 3 used to transcode it to
MPEG2 and burn it to a DVD.
FWIW, there is no need to "format" a DVD with most DVD burning software
(like Nero). And although Photo Story 3 is a free download from
Microsoft, NeroVision Express 3 comes as a component of Nero Express 6,
which is a commercial CD/DVD burning package. It is much more versatile
and capable than the Sonic encoder often suggested to add DVD burning
capability to MCE. It also produces *much* better results than using
the Sonic encoder add-in to Photo Story 3 that is for sale.

Hello Michael,.
Now that I've downloaded Photo Show 3, will I be able to perform the steps in Media Center including the "Format DVD" step where I should be able to select "DVD Slide Show" just before the step where I give the DVD a title? If not, how do I use the Photo Show Software to burn a slide show and songs to play during the slide show on a DVD?
Thanks,
Jason.

The slide show capability in Media Center is provided by a Microsoft
program called Photo Show 3, which is a free download.
I recommend that you download and install it, use it to create your
slide show (which you can customize extensively) with music, then save
the result as a 1024x768 .wmv file. Then import it into NeroVision
Express 3 and burn a DVD. The results are as good as the native MCE
slide show, and you can synchronize the music and slides, customize
the zooms, pans, and transitions, and, in NeroVision Express, burn
multiple slide shows to one DVD and create a menu.
I tried a bunch of combinations of tools, and this is the only one
that created a really sharp, commercial-quality DVD.

I have the Media Center XP 2005 edition and I can not perform a function which I believe I shouldbe able. Tim Muscott noted the steps in burning a DVD picture slide show with music. When I tried to accomplish this using Tim's 6 steps, I found that the step where I would format the disc by selecting DVD Slide Show does not exist. When I tried, the program jumps to giving the DVD a title, not allowing me to burn a slide show and burn music so that both can be played at the same time. The burn process accomplished only burning the slide show and my selected songs as separate files on the DVD-R. I would really like to get the most out of this Media Center and accomplish what the program claims. Please help so that I may create this project and enjoy my family pictures in a slide show.
Thanks.
Jason.
