Ok I know this is a well discussed topic to which I have yet to find a solution. I have a brand new, custom built PC. To be short, all name brand parts, Intel board & CPU, etc. I am running Windows XP Media Center and a Haupauge PVR-150 TV Tuner card which says it is 100% fully MCE compatible. I can watch and record TV without issue, however, I CANNOT burn a DVD movie, from recorded TV directly from Media Center. (As I am starting to see, a common issue). I found a step by step walkthrough of the burning process, and how it SHOULD look. The very first question it SHOULD ask me is if I want to burn a Data DVD or DVD Movie, which I am never prompted for. From my research, I have found many posts regarding installing the Sonic Decoders, so I went to Add/Remove Programs -> Windows Components, and added the portion regarding Sonic Codec and Burning, included with MCE, which did not help at all. I am still unable to burn directly from Media Center to a DVD movie. The purpose of this system was intended SOLELY to convert old VHS tapes, with the stipulation that it has to be done with a single program (or as simply as possible). Does anyone else have any other ideas???? I have tried most applicable ideas posted in various forums to no avail. I am extremely discusted that Bill could sell, yet another product, that simply does not work as advertised without using 2 or 3 other 3rd party programs. (If I wanted to use 3rd party programs, I wouldn't need Media Center at all, so what is the purpose?) The problem is that this PC is not for me, but a customer with limited knowledge and needs it to be simple. For more information sakes, the O.S. has been re-installed, on a new H.D. and the entire syustem can be rebuilt in 15 minutes if need be. ANY and ALL Ideas or suggestions welcome. In the meantime I will stop selling Media Center edition until the 180 pages of problems listed in forums becomes a little less.
I hate to be the one to tell you, but *by far* the easiest way to do
what you want to do it to buy a combined VHS/DVD recorder box. They
will transfer tapes to DVD with a single button push, and the best
quality possible (since they essentially use an internal S-video
connection, bypassing the conversion to/from composite).
These boxes are much less expensive than any computer, and are
designed for home entertainment use.
Ironically, MCE is *not* well designed for this task.
