RE: MCE 2005 Xbox 360 Extender PC Setup Cannot contact Xbox 360

Thanks for the suggestion Donnovan. I tried changing the scope of the Port
1900 exception, but it didn't work. The scope of Port 1900 is probably just
one of the myriad things that could be keeping my 360/extender from working
properly.
Microsoft, please take note. One should not have to be a "power user" of
windows in order to get their 360/extender to see their MCE PC. I'm sure its
possible (and I'm sure I could figure this out), but its WAY to difficult
(and time consuming) for the average person (e.g., if you asked 100 people if
they knew how to open a Port on their Firewall, few would reply "yes"). You
guys need to publish an easy fix if you really want consumers to use MCE over
their home networks, in their living rooms and away from their PCs.

Hi, I just wanted to add a post to let everyone know that my problem is.
fixed, and to thank everyone for their suggestions. Also, to provide info on
what fixed my problem to help others who might be having this problem.
Although I had the Windows firewall disabled, my PC seemed to still be
blocking UPD Port 1900 traffic. I discovered this by using PacketMon from
AnalogX.
I went into the Windows Firewall settings, to the exception list, and to the
Exception for UPnP Framework, UDP Port 1900. I changed the scope from subnet
to Any. Applied those settings. On my next attempt to add the 360, it
worked the first time. I hope this info helps someone else out there having
this same problem.
Thanks again for all the suggestions.

I purchased an XBox 360 about a week ago, and have been trying to connect it
to my Dell XPS MCE 2005 PC ever since. I have spent a lot of time searching
the net and talking to XBox support, but so far I have not been able to get
it fixed.
The Problem:
The 360 sees my PC and connects fine via Media Connect, however when running
XBox360 setup via media center extender manager I get as far as entering the
setup key, and get stuck on the next screen. The PC always reports back Xbox
360 cannot be contacted. I also have an Xbox Classic w/ MC extender and it
connects fine to the MC PC.
My Setup:
Dell XPS Gen 4 running WinXP MCE 2005 Rollup 2
Xbox 360
Xbox Classic w/media center extender software
Linksys Router BEFSX41 firmware 1.52.9
Toshiba Cable Modem
All connections are hardwired
What I have tried thus far:
Uninstalled McAfee AV
Uninstalled MS Anti-Spyware
Disabled Windows built-in Firewall
Ugraded Linksys router to current firmware
Purchased a router on the compliant list, DLink DI-524
Direct connected the PC to the 360 via CAT5
Uninstalled and reinstalled mediaconnect and extendermanager (numerous times)
"regsvr32 %windir%\system32\rsaenh.dll"
Numerous calls to XBox support and Dell Support
The following response posts are my log files (the DvcConn.log is only from
the last few events, and does include where I added my classic Xbox to
extender succesfully, all of the failures are for the 360.):
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks,
Donovan
