I don't have anything in the DVD drive. In fact I didn't even buy any
games. I really wanted the 360 just for the extended capabilities.
Is there any chance MS has upgraded the fans in later units due to the
reported overheating issues? Just a thought, as my unit is quite franky,
noisy. The noise I hear is most definitely the system fan. I can hear it
throttling down shortly after bootup, but it remains audible.

Try running the unit without a game DVD in it. The DVD drive itself is
pretty noisy because it is constantly accessing the drive during gameplay,
but if you're running your sound (not loud) at a comfortable level, you
probably won't notice it.

Does anyone else out there that owns a 360 think the unit is a little
noisy?
Don't get me wrong, I love the thing. It works really well as an MCE
Extender. But I was under the impression from some MS folks that the
unit would be really quiet. Mine is like a small PC running under my TV.
I can hear the fan running from 15 feet away.
Maybe if I hadn't waited almost 3 months to get my 360 I wouldn't be as
annoyed...
