Re: Extender Setup Error

Thanks!

For some reason both of those registry keys were missing, I'm not sure how
they got deleted. I exported them from another MCE PC and imported them into
that one and everything is fine now, thanks again :).

Can you open regedit and check to see whether both of the below keys exist?
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout\Preload

If either is missing (which they shouldn't be), it potentially could cause
the below error.

Hi,

I have two Xbox Media Center Extenders that I am having a problem getting
to
function. I had one of them setup months ago, and it was functioning
properly until I attempted to get the second extender working. When I ran
the setup wizard, it would always fail attempting to create a user account
for the extender, in this case it would have been MCX2. I uninstalled the
extender software, and reinstalled it. From that point on, neither
extender
would setup correctly. I've tried everything I can possibly think of, and
I
can't figure out why Windows is failing to create user accounts for my
extenders. Here is what I've done so far:

Uninstalled Windows Media Connect
Uninstalled and reinstalled the .NET Framework 1.1 and updates
Uninstalled the .NET Framework 2.0
Uninstalled antivirus and disabled the Windows XP firewall
Cleared the extender data from the Xbox's HDD so I would have a new setup
key (I've done this one many, many times trying to get it to work)

The two consoles are connected via a wired network to a Linksys WRT54GS
router. All PC's are connected to a Netgear Gigabit switch, then a cable
runs between the switch and the router. All IP's are statically
configured,
however the router's DHCP server is enabled if it were to ever be needed.
The Media Center PC that I am trying to get the extenders installed on has
a
Netgear Gigabit NIC in it. All cables are cat5e.

I've tried a crossover cable, skipping the router and switch entirely.
The
problem still exists this way. I'm almost positive there is something
wrong
with my Windows install, but I would rather not format that PC if at all
possible. It would take me several days to get everything setup correctly
again, and I don't have that much time right now.

Here is the contents of the error log that's being created. There is
nothing logged in the event viewer relating to the user account problem at
all. The devices get affiliated, but it's cancelled after Windows can't
create the user account.

Does anyone have any idea what my problem is here? I would be forever
grateful if someone could give me a fix for this, I'm pulling my hair out
here (and at this rate, I won't have much left by the time I'm done).

Thanks!
