Done deal. Found an AMD driver, and the driver for the TV tuner, ATI 550
Theater Pro, and rebooted, and it is as smooth as silk.
JW, thanks for your help on this. Very much appreciated!!
Dana, thank you much for your initial help.

How can I find what type of tuner card I have? I've checked the sys info and.
apparently don't know what I'm looking for. Also, Dana asked me about my DVD
decoder and etc.; should I be concerned with that as well?
Thanks for checking this out!

The drivers at MS.com (WinUpdate) are in many cases 6 months behind the
vendor releases and can be incompatible with the rest of your configuration.
Downlaod the latest drivers for your tuner card from the tuner card
manufacturers website and donwload the latest drivers for you NVIDIA or ATI
graphics card/chip from NVIDIA or ATI. Also download the current XP driver
AMD X2 chip from AMD .com I beleive it is dated 05/05.

Can't find spec on TV tuner. Everything has been updated at microsoft.com
to
the most recent drivers. Not using the DVD or any DVD software. Just
trying
to play the shows I recently recorded using Media Center.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

Could you give us some specs on your PC? Which DVD decoder software, and
version? Which display adapter, and version of drivers? Which tuner card?

Hope this wasn't posted already, if it was I couldn't find it, my
apologies.
When I go to Media Center and bring up shows that I've recorded, it
will
play for a few seconds, and then it will hang up or freeze. Basically,
it
plays in fits and starts.
Is there something I can do about this?
This is a brand new computer, really fast, and I would think that it
shouldn't be doing this.
