Since MCX has its own decoder chip it sounds like a Decoder problem with
your 5.1 speakers on MCE?
What DVD Decoder are you usint?
If the NVIDIA Decoder ( recommend a freed30 day trial if you are not using
it). You can download the user's manual for it from the same Webpage that
you donwn load the Decoder from and there are several pages at the end of
the manual on setting up the Decoders audion options.

Updated Post:
On my MCE PC, I can play all my music fine via WMP 10 but when I launch
Media Center and play the same music, I get really bad distorted startup
theme music when MC launches, and all the navigation chimes are really
distorted (and played only through the monitor speakers). When I play
music
via Media Center it
sounds TERRIBLE. Doesnt play through my 5.1 speakers. ... and it plays
literally at HALF speed. I can play wmv video/audio and it sounds great.
Music audio problem persists whether mp3 or wma conent.
Here's the NEW stuff.... The audio problem ONLY happens when MC screen is
fully maxmized. When I shrink the MC app to smaller panel or minimize the
Media center app while the "bad" music is playing, suddenly the music
sounds
great!! So it seems that there's some codec conflict ?? when displaying
MC
app full screen and playing audio at the same time.
Ive installed MC2005 Update 2 and every other KB I can find for WMP or
MCE.
Any ideas ???
