Your desktop computer has 'slots' to hold 'cards' that perform certain
functions. Most of the slots are PCI slots that can hold a PCI USB2
card. One purchases the PCI USB2 card. One installs the driver from
the included CD, if XP does not have a native (built-in) driver, then
shuts down, unpowers, opens the case, finds an empty PCI slot to hold
the card, and pushes the card into the slot. Now, you should verify
from your computer docs how many PCI slots your mainboard has and then
open the case and see if there is an available empty slot before making
the purchase.
Print out your list of affected USB chipsets or devices. Then go to
newegg (a very reputable on-line store in which I have no financial
interest) and select the PCI USB2 card of your choice. The newegg
selection of PCI USB2 cards is at this link - watch the word wrap, the
linkis all on one line
