Another vote against onboard video. You usually end up paying more for the
MB only to find out later that the video isn't up to snuff and you have to
buy an additional card anyway. Better to save the money on the MB and
purchase any one of the decent cards out there.
The NVIDIA NVTV cards are good for capture as well as the Hauppauge cards. I
have used both the NVTV (single and dual) and the PVR-150MCE. If you can
find the PVR-150 for $60-$70 (with rebate) it is a great deal. Otherwise it
is about the same price as the NVIDIA card. However, the Hauppauge cards
also adds a remote and STB "blaster & buds" so for many people on a budget
it is a cheaper choice.
One note; to watch a different channel than you are recording requires that
you have *two* tuner cards in the MCE box. The NVTV dual tuner card uses a
single PCI slot as does the Hauppauge PVR-500, however, if you are using a
STB the PVR-500 requires an additional cable set in order to connect the
second STB source. This cable set costs less than $20 and requires an
additional PCI slot making the Hauppauge solution less than desirable in
applications where slots are at a premium.
