Very interesting - 0x800706A6 maps to "the Terminal Services service is not
running".

Next time you see this, please try the below *after* ending your VPN
connection:
1) Open Services.msc (Start > Run > "services.msc" <enter>)
2) Scroll down to the "Terminal Services" service; is its status "Started"?
If not, right click it and select Start.
3) Try reconnecting from your MCX
