Sorry, you misunderstood my earlier reply. I am indeed plugged directly into
a USB port on the back panel of the computer. My commnet about a powered hub
is that its possible that this port is supplied by an internal hub, and not
wired directly to the motherboard.

I have found a reference on an external web site to others having this
problem. The issue appears to be that the BIOS will look at all USB ports at
boot time to see if any of them is connected to a bootable drive. For some
reason the printer looks to the BIOS as if it was a bootable drive, therefore
the boot stalls.

There may be a way to disable the boot over USB facility. Or maybe just
change the boot order in the BIOS. But I'd rather keep this capability for
emergency use.
