Re: Issue with XBOX 360 acting as an Extender

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

!! PLEASE READ -- IMPORTANT STEPS TO FOLLOW BELOW TO HELP US SOLVE THIS
PROBLEM !!

Hey guys, I'm a program manager who works on the Xbox 360 MCX (Media Center
Extender) software and I want to give you an update...we're definitely still
engaged and want to figure this out badly.

Yesterday we thought we had a reliable repro from an employee inside
Microsoft and we wanted to chase that down since it would be easier to
communicate and make progress internally than with external customers. For
some reason that employee's repro went away when they uninstalled and
re-installed the MCX software and we weren't able to get a capture of the
network traffic that we think we'll need to debug this.

Now that we've lost our internal repro the next step is to attempt to get a
capture of the network traffic from one of you guys who is consistently
experiencing the "Invalid Connection Data" issue. IMPORTANT: we actually
don't want you guys to "fix" the issue before we can get a network
capture...so don't go do anything that might somehow make things better such
as uninstalling and reinstalling the MCX software. If you can hold out
please keep your system in the same broken state it's in and leave it in
that state until we thing we've figured this out.

What we need folks to do now:

1) download and install
http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/pmon.htm (freeware) on your
Media Center PC that's experiencing the problem
2) go to the Windows desktop, Start menu, Programs, AnalogX, PacketMon
folder and start the "PacketMon" program
3) get the PC-side setup software and the Xbox 360 back into the state where
the "Invalid Data Connection" screen is displayed on the Xbox side and
pressing of the "Reconnect" button just eventually gets you back into the
loop of going through the same steps over and over again
4) on the Media Center PC, press the "Start" button in the upper-right
corner of PacketMon
5) go through the motions on the Media Center and Xbox 360 exactly one more
time to make a complete loop back to where you started
6) on the Media Center PC, press the "Stop" button on PacketMon
7) go to the "File" menu of PacketMon and "Save As..." to a CSV file on your
machine
8) reply all to the newsgroup with an attachment that is the CSV file
(assuming it's not super big)

This information should allow us to figure out what's going on. Thanks in
advance for everyone's patience and assistance.
