Check which graphics card, which Intel processor, and other parts that
require fans.
Fans are the primary noise makers.
The fastest, highest performing graphics cards all have fans that are
loud. So, get the manual for the XPS 600, and find out which graphics
card comes with it. Then, search an online store line Newegg and find
if the respective graphics card comes with or without a fan. It should
also say whether the fan is a quiet fan.
We know that Dell only uses Intel processors. Find out which model, and
see if the fan is a quiet kind.
Then, you have the case fans and the fan on the power supply. If Dell's
manual doesn't speak to how quiet the box is or that quiet fans are
used, then you must assume that loud stock fans are in play.
Perhaps Dell customer service may be helpful. I wouldn't be surprised
if CS says, "Oh, we can customize your XPS 600 for near silent running.
You'll just have to pay for it."
