Re: WMCE Wireless Communication Setup Problem

I'm not a network wiz (obviously, hence my posts here!)... but my network
wouldn't operate with the wireless router DHCP enabled and the clients set up
with dynamic IP addreses. Someone told me the reason is the Sat modem is
also serving as a DHCP router, and so both devices are providing conflicting
private addresses.

I've solved my WMCE communication problem. Basically, I:

- disconnected each electrical device from power (including the wireless
router and the Sat modem),
- reset their two reset buttons, disabled the WRT DHCP,
- reset each client to their consecutive static IP addresses,
- using the WRT as the default gateway (192.168.1.1),
- reran the Network Wizard on the two XP machines (and set up the 2000
machine manually),
- assured network functioning via both pinging, web access, and file
transfers.

Then, I re-ran the WMCE setup disk. The first time the MCE tried to
communicate with the WMCE it reported it couldn't find the IP address, and
gave me the opportunity to assign the WMCE a static IP. When I gave it a
valid IP, the WMCE was recognized and the registration completed fine.

The WMCE is displaying our family photo slide show as I type this.

Whew!

Thanks for your ideas and help,

Cal
