Re: installing winxp on a external hdd

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

well, the notebooks bios detects the external drive an uses this like a
"normal" storage device.
As I wrote, Windows (installed on the external drive) begins to start. There
is no other HDD installed in the system, so windows MUST be able to load
files from the USB-Drive. But at a certain point Windows crashes with the
written message.

I guess that Windows recognises during the boot process the usb device and
tries to load the device drivers. But when windows installs new drivers for
the usb device it looses the connection with its system drive.

To bring it to one point: How can I Windows tell to keep the "status quo"
and do nothing with its storage devices.
By the way, I already tried to boot in the "protected mode" but this also
doesn't work.
