When buying an MCE PC where exactly does it tell you before purchasing
that "live"TV will be delivered a few seconds after broadcast? You can
bet it's not mentioned in the advertising or by the sales droids.
If you've never had a PVR before why would you assume such a design.
If I was designing such a system I would pass live TV straight through
from the TV card to the graphics card, while writing the buffer as a
parallel activity. The buffer would only be used *if* a PVR function
was called into operation.
The benefits would be - instant channel changing, better picture
quality and a far more relaxed disk drive, not thrashing back and
forth writing a bit then reading the same thing moments later.
IMHO the general design of PVR that work with a buffer delay is
stupid. I'm sure any right minded individual would agree.
