Re: screen looks good in MCE but not at desktop or tv

Without knowing the Model number I can not use Google to find a descripton
of your set to know if it is CRT or Digital based. However, since it is
automatically trying to use 1920x1080 it is most likely a CRT based system
capable of scanning 1080i lines.
The MCE app runs what MS calles its 10foot UI which means it uses giant
fonts based on 480p resolution not the font and resolution you have selected
for your PC desktop so that it will look good on any PC or TV.
Since I don't know what video card you have (make and model) I also don't
know what options you have for it. You probably need to get the full video
card users manual from the WebSite of the graphics chip used on the card for
the version of the cards driver that you are using. Many cards today have
overscan adjustments available with their latest drivers.

Your PC based TV processing is not as good as your TV itself since your PC
tuner card encodes the SD 480i video input then stores it on disk and then
decodes it back and converts it to 480p. Then you video card scales it to
the resolution you have selected and processs for output.
It will also be usefull to know what resolution you are using (souds like
1080i) but over what interface? (Component, DVI, VGA, S-video).
OTA video from a HD tuner will look a lot better, however, you have to have
a video card capable of handling it.
