It's an older model and although (according to numerous finds through
Google) it should be compatible with the RW type media, it's often difficult
to get RWs (whether + or -) to play on a DVD that didn't make it. I haven't
had problems with Fuji media, or with Memorex, but DVD players, especially
combos, can be extremely fussy.
Have you tried a Sony RW disk?
