RE: I GIVE UP!!

Tony, et. al.,

THANK-YOU for posting! This has been driving me NUTS and according to every
tech person in INDIA, the support people associated with Circuit City, the
technical "experts" at EMachine, AND (MOST IMPORTANTLY) the Microsoft Support
folks (from India of course) it's just me and NO ONE else is experiencing
this problem. BTW: Phone for Microsoft is 800.426.9400--HOWEVER, when they
find out it's a Media Center issue they will tell you that Windows doesn't
cover it and that you can talk to a tech person who will call you back in 24
hours for the small sum of $25!! Lovely.

Here is my situation:

1) I am on the ONLY ALL fiber network in the United States (Keller, Texas).
Utilizing FIOS for BOTH high speed (Cat 5) and HDTV (via cable). D-Link
router of course.

2) I have a NEW (2 week old) EMachine that I purchased from Circuit City
(T6522). 64 BIT AMD, 2 GIG Ram, 200 Gib storage, etc. etc.

3) I tried to use Norton in conjunction with Webroot but after a week of
frustration I discovered there were compatibility issues with Windows XP
Media. I had to go back to initial install and trash those two programs.
I'm now using Zone Labs 6 with Security Staganos Security Suite 7 (highly
recommended by Cnet and PCMag) with no further issues.

4) I have tried EVERYTHING mentioned here in addition to a few suggestions
provided by the numerous tech support folks. I have spent two solid weeks
trying to resolve this issue without success. At this point I GIVE UP!! I'm
waiting until January when the NEW 64 Bit Windows OS will be available. Only
THEN do I hope this issue will be resolved.

5) INTERESTING NOTE FOR DEVELOPERS> The problem (as previously stated)
began when I installed the service pack. Also, I'm not sure why but when I
try to listen to XM Radio over the web now the stations will no longer load.
At first I thought the culprit MUST be Internet Explorer but alas I've tried
EVERY conceivable scenario with configuration and nothing works! The problem
PERFECTLY parallels the issue with the Media Center Guide not
downloading--but that has been discussed at length here.

The error code is #3: Windows System Error. Also, invalid file code (under
script).

I hope this helps. If anyone gets this STUPID thing figured out please
post. This bug basically NEGATES the whole concept behind Media Center. Why
Microsoft is treating us like we're pariah I'll never know. The problem is
evidently real.

Respectfully.

> Enough is enough. There is definitly a problem with Updating the Program Guide in MCE2004. It IS NOT limited to any computer manufacturer, if you have Dell, Gateway, HP, Sony all have this problem. You can initially set up the guide and it works, but when trying to update it the problem begins. There are 20+ people in this subsection of the newsgroup alone, it would be safe to assume that only a small fraction of those with this problem found this group! It IS NOT due to a lack of connection to the internet, the test of internet connection works AND the step before downloading the guide, you download a list of providers. It IS NOT the lack of getting a windows update. IT IS a problem with the software itself and I want a phone number (of someone in the USA) to call to get a final resolution to this problem. If no one has this lets get a
