Other radios are not as picky, particularly ones with analog tuners. You may find some digital tuners that overscan the FM broadcast band, but most don't. Since MCE is written to use what's supposed to be out there, its only going to tune to what it expects to find.

87.7 is not a valid FM channel, according to the FCC. 87.9 is as low as they go. And 87.9 is actually at the upper edge of the audio portion of the assignments for TV Channel 6. It can be used by certain low power (10 watt) class D stations, such as you might find at a drive-in movie, but it is not valid for general FM broadcast.

So, a sloppy analog radio might pick it up, but most digitally tuned receivers won't.
