can't see media center on my TV, Help!!

I am not a moron, but looking at the setup instructions and what I have on my
Gateway media center machine are different. I can use my monitor and view
TV, Record, etc. I decided to use my TV as the primary for media center. I
hooked up the s-video to the only s-video on my media center, which is on the
same card as the inbound cable card(guy at best buy said that was what I
should do). I went through the config of my tv and answered all the
questions like I should. The TV screen is blank, but I can still use the
monitor. I read on the boards that I needed to create a clone in the
display... I don't have that option. What do I do?

My t.v. is not necessarily older, but is new and cheap and little (just supposed to be one I could watch shows on while computing in my office). ...
