I'm surprised at that, as is obvious. Do they now make nail-polish remover without acetone? Or do they make display faces that are not soluble in acetone? Tell the truth, I also thought that the solvents in Super Glue would dissolve typical Plexiglas-like (acrylic, yes?) plastics.
I hate it when reality disagrees with my beliefs :-)

I wouldn't.

Also, in most cases, unless the plastic bezel is extremely porous, something super glued will pop right off if you get a sharp knife under the edge. Particularly small things like the emitters should come right off.

Super Glue is scary. What about if you want to remove it later?
I suggest some foam-backed double-sided tape, but pick some that claims a removable adhesive (if that exists).
Cut a square of the right size, somehow cut a hole in the middle of it, and put it all together. Or maybe, if the tape is transparent to IR, you don't even need a hole in the middle...
If a hole is too hard to cut (double-sided tape is not easy to work with), cut two narrow strips, and place them on either side of the receiver and transmitter. Like |o| where o represents the optics.
