Manually Tuning

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hi,
I have another question about manually tuning the TV channels in MCE2005.
Firstly I’d like to say its amazing product, with loads of potential, I
really think in times to come it will be the only device under your TV in
your living room. However, the current edition does seem a little lacking in
the TV tuning dept.
I live in Ireland, so we're not lucky enough to have supported MCE EPGs at
the moment. This is causing problems for me because as far as I can tell, the
EPGs tell the program where to look on the frequency band of your tuner.
There are various xml tricks to create EPGs of sorts, but my problem is that
MCE will not pick up the stations to assign the guides to. I'd even live
without the guides if I could just tune to my channels clearly.
In my town, I get an analogue cable TV, with 17 channels. When MCE scans the
tuner it picks up 7 of them, and even at that 3 of them are very fuzzy. I
know it’s not the tuner card (Hauppauge150MCE) because I also have SageTV,
and it finds them all, perfectly. I've herd about the MCETuningovverides.xml
file but I’m not sure if I’m using it correctly. I got the frequencies, in
MHz, for my 17 channels from my lounge TV, entered the data into the xml
file, and made sure the Tuning space number was set to my country code. When
I run "Scan for more services" it starts scanning, but stops 2 seconds later,
saying 100% complete. Its as if it doesn’t do anything at all. No extra
channels were available in "Live TV".
I then thought of using "Add missing channels" in the guide settings. I
entered the channel names as I entered in the "AnalogLocator Id" place in the
XML file, and the channel numbers as they were in "Index Channel="xx”. I
saved all my settings, and checked "live TV" again, still no extra channels.
Then I ran "Scan for more services" one more time, still got to 100% in 2
seconds but this time I showed up the 17 extra services, exactly as I named
them in my XML files. Thinking I'd cracked it, I went back to live TV, but to
my extreme disappointment, STILL NO EXTRA CHANNELS!
I'm really tired of this now, having spent almost a week of evenings trying
to sort this out. I know loads of people are asking similar questions, but
I’d really appreciate some help or advice here.
Thanks in advance, and sorry about the long post/whinge :)
