Yes, it's a PITA, but if you just do what it says, it doesn't take long and it isn't difficult (unless you're me - but that's another story).

It usually asks for the code during the install process and then nags you to activate in 30 days. Is it just asking to activate? If so, just do that, if you are reinstalling on the same machine you shouldn't have a problem.

I added a new video card and NIC to my machine and got the warning the the system had changed and I needed to activate and it was no problem.

I just did a fresh reinstall on my HP 873N or 2005 MCE. Its only the second time installing on same PC. It asks for some kind of unlocking code now and says I have 30 days to re-register.

Any workarounds other than calling Microsoft?
