Yes, it's a PITA, but if you just do what it says, it doesn't take long and it isn't difficult (unless you're me - but that's another story).

Is it just asking to activate? If so, just do that, if you are reinstalling on the same machine you shouldn't have a problem.
I added a new video card and NIC to my machine and got the warning the the system had changed and I needed to activate and it was no problem.
