Re: Help with video out MCE 2005, Please

Hals:

Unfortunately, that's just how the video cards work in clone mode - both outputs need to be at the same resolution.

You might be able to ignore that SVideo output on the video card and look instead for something that will split off an modulate the component signal going to your projector. I'm not sure how you'd go about doing that.

Or, get 1 extender and modulate the output from that to the rest of the TVs in the house. That would be my preferred solution.

Well That kind of makes the MCE unit a expensive boat anchor for my purposes!

I have a HDTV CRT front projection unit in the main media room and three other tv's in other rooms hubbed to the media room.

As it is just myself and my sig other we don't need to view different sources in different rooms except for the remote switching I provided for in the media room.

The object for me was to use the MCE recorder for whatever programs we wished to save and view later (either over the air hdtv or sat) and to be able to watch and set the recorder in whatever room we happen to be (hdtv in the main or regular tv in the bedroom as preferred).

This is easily done wilh the many VCR's I have now and assumed that I could eliminate the VCRs for a central media center.

To have to add a couple of hundred for a extender for every room really defeats what should have been a simple task.

Since the HDTV tuner is part of the MCE unit it's ridiculous to have to reset the out put resolution every time you move to another room.

Both sets should work at 720x480 NTSC resolution for you. This might be a downgrade for your projection TV if it's high-def, but both outputs on the video card need to be at the same resolution for clone mode to work.

Using the MCE configure your displays wizard should set up at 720x480 for you and enable overscan compensation.

Your windows desktop will never look good over SVideo unfortunately, especially after it's modulated.

Here's what I'm trying to do.

I have mce 05 outputting to rgb to my projection tv (with great results) in the media room and want to feed the rest of the house with the s-video output modulated to RF.

I need to be able to control mce with my rf keyboard and mouse (which works at all the areas I need) on both the main and rest of the house tv's.

I have been unable to get the windows interface to display on both outputs and also have been unable to find a output setting for the s-vhs that provides anything even close to a normal full screen tv picture with out massive overscan.

I have searched the web in vain for what should be a clearly stated guide to setup the outputs for this type of whole house video.

I'm a system builder and I can't believe that I can't find the quick and simple answer to this question.

I'm using a Nvidia 5700 card.

Can any one help.

Thanks
