Hi there, I also have an HP 873n and was wondering if you had your recovery
OS disk's I believe there are 8 cd's in the pakage, you would have gotten
them from HP in case your hard drive ever did fail and you needed to install
a new hard drive. I ordered mine about a year and a half ago just in case my
hard drive ever failed. If you do have these then you should be good to go.
Then when you have totally loaded your new OS and got all your revelant
updates from HP and Windows update (Don't load SP2 or Media Player 10 or
direct X 9.0c from windows update these are included in your Media Center
2005 upgrade disk). Now go ahead and load your upgrade disk and let it do its
thing, then when it's done go back to windows update and get all remaining
updates that it says. Hope this helps you, also I would highly recommend that
you increase your memory to 1 gig. I have 1 gig in mine and notice a
difference in stability,, I also upgraded my video card to a fx 5600 256mb,
and am really happy with the difference. If you can't get the restore disk's
from HP let me know on here and I might be able to help you out as I have 2
complete set's that they sent me.
