Dynamic disks

I recently bought a Media Center Extender from the USA (benefits of living with a Californian) and it was working OK, except that I couldnt record two shows and watch them from the living room and the bedroom at the same time. Some investigations revealed that the cause of the problem was that the strain of supplying 4 video streams was causing the disk throughput to top out.
So I bought a new hard drive, fitted it, set the two drives to dynamic and turned the old partition into a new striped one. At no point was I warned that this would cause problems.
As with most users, I didnt search for a description of this problem until I encountered it. Now I cant connect the extender to the rest of the system.
Is there an ETA on a fix for this? Or any other way to utilise the two disk drives (120Gb and 160Gb) to get greater performance? Im looking at maybe buying a hardware RAID card, would this have the same problems?
I am rather annoyed that there is no mention of this in any MS technote, it should not be that hard for a Media Center installation to disable the dynamic disk conversion, or to allow the darned extender to connect afterwards.
So, anyone know a tech that can give a reason for the failure to connect? Or if there is a workaround? Or even how to revert a dynamic disk back to basic?
Thanks in advance,
Jim .
