Sounds almost like what happens when you get a stuck key or mouse button, do
you have a keyboard and mouse on the system?
Maybe something flaked out with the usb receiver and it keeps repeating a
command. Try unplugging the remote receiver, reboot, then plug in (maybe to
a different usb port even).
