Seems most likely that your "active" MPEG-2 decoder is not compatible with
MCE 2005. Do you know what MPEG-2 decoders are installed on your system?
Microsoft has made a nifty decoder checker utility available exactly for such
situations.
If you don't have the utility, you can get it from:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=de1491ac-0ab6-4990-943d-627e6ade9fcb&displaylang=en&Hash=W44XKX7
Once you run this utility, you will most likely see that the offending
decoder might work fine with WMP10, but not with MCE 2005.
