Newbie? and "The Masters"

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Hi All,
Newbie here so please excuse.
I just took possession of a new Laptop with MCE on it. I did not get it
with a tuner card because I wanted to get my own after market brand which is
on it's way. Anyway, Hubby wants me to record "The Masters". This is
several hours of TV programming. How does that work exactly? It first
records it to my hard drive right so it doesn't matter how long it is right?
Now how would I record it to DVD? I do have a Dual Layer DVD on the lappy
so does it know to span on several DVD's or what?
Please advise.
TIA
