record one channel while watching another

Hi,
I'm trying to record one channel while watching another,,,, but
everytime,,,, the channel that records is the channel that I'm watching.

If I use the guide and schedule a recording lets say on channel five at 7:00
and I'm watching channel 39,,,,,, at 7:00 a little red button pops up saying
channel 5 has started recording . At the ending of the recording when I go
back to check it recorded channel 39 ( the one I was watching).

What am I doing wrong?? Can anyone help ? Thanks
