Did you assign the correct WORKGROUP name to your new computer? Is your router configured as a DHCP server?
BTW, HP's answer is total BS. You should have no problem connecting your MCE PC to a network as a member of a WORKGROUP.

I just received my HP zd8000 laptop yesterday and I can't connect to my workgroup at the office. This is a simple peer to peer, no domain. I can't even get an IP address through the lan. There are 5 other computers connected through a hub. The cable modem connects to the hub via firewall/dns server. I am using a cat 5 wire that works fine with a desktop so wiring is not the issue.
After 2 hours of tech support calls HP told me that Media Center was not designed to connect to a network.....period. I find that hard to believe.
Does anyone have a real answer? DOA NIC?
Thanks for any replies Bill M
