It should have been set up just fine based on the steps you mention.
Is there a firewall running anywhere between the MCX and the MCE machine? Windows XP SP2 firewall or anything else?

Newbie Question:
I bought a Linksys Media Center Extender WMCE54AG on Tuesday, and have now spend 2 evenings trying to get it to work. Any help would be appreciated.
Environment:
Media Center PC running Media Center Edition 2005 running in the basement, connected to a Cisco 2900XL switch. All my other machines and laptops also connect to the switch directly or through Cisco 12000 access points (with both .b and .a radios). All things work correctly, including the DHCP server and internet access through a Netgear RP614 router.
I set up the Linksys MCE at my TV, connected the sound, s-video, power, and network cable (lights on the back of the MCE for the network lit up, and the port on the 2900 lit up and sync'd to green). This port in the TV room has been used to connect a laptop and is wired correctly.
I powered up the MCE, and it said "contacting the Media PC". After a short time it displayed the screen with the setup key, and a line towards the bottom of the screen saying "Connected to a Wired Network". I wrote down the setup key and went to the basement to set up the media pc.
I turned off the firewall on the media center pc and checked to make sure I didn't have the anti-spyware software installed. I put the extender software in to the machine and began the installation. It asked for the software key, then configured some general settings.
It then asked for the setup key of the extender, which I entered. Then it started scanning for an extender. The next screen asked if the extender was on a wired or wireless network, I chose wired, and it start scanning for an extender again. It came back saying it could not find any extenders on the network, and the only option left was to Retry or Cancel. I pressed Retry a few times but no change.
I am now disappointed, for something that should have been easy to setup.
I tried again with the extender set to use my wireless .a network. the extender comes back as says that it did not receive a DHCP response. Hmmm, every other device on my network receives a DHCP response. Tried both my 12000 access points with the same message.
Now I am a little frustrated.
I pressed the "info" button on the remote, and the screen with the BIOS and other related info is displayed. It says:
Ethernet MAC Address [error] Ethernet IP Address [error] Wireless MAC Address [error] Wireless IP Address [error]
Should this have been easy to set up? What am I doing wrong? Anything I can look at or do? Did I get a DOA unit right off the bat?
thanks for any help Leo
