Re: DVD backups

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Yes, I read this article when I first started trying to archive my dvd's/vob
files. TMPgenc works fine for a full DVD, but I spent several days ripping
only the vob files from my DVD's to play on the MMC. Then I got an extender
and quickly realized that my vobs won't play from the extender. So, my
alternative was to convert the vobs to wmv. TMPgenc does not convert vobs;
you must provide the entire dvd file structure. I have been using WinAVI
which works OK, but does not have many options and takes about 6-7 hours to
compress a 1.5hr movie. I understand that they take time to compress, but 7
hours is ridiculous. I agree with you that I probably won't convert many
movies as the work involved is not worth the effort. Hopefully, there will be
a better solution sometime in the future; in the meantime I will go with one
movie day . Thanks!
