Help Using Scheduled Recording Feature

I'm having trouble scheduling recordings (i.e., the Tivo-like feature) using
Media Center 2005, and would appreciate any and all help!

I can manually record, but scheduled recordings don't work. I've downloaded
the correct TV schedule, but when I select a show to record -- the only thing
my computer records is the channel which I last left the actual TV on!

It seems like my computer isn't properly instructing my TV to change
channels at the right time so that it can record the scheduled program at the
scheduled time. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this thing to work
properly?

[FYI: I have a HP Pavillion laptop, and a Samsung TV receiver -- if that
matters.]
