I'd like to know if there are any other people out there who think that there
is a basic flaw in the design of how MCE 2005 buffers their Live TV and ties
it to the EPG.

The problem is just like TiVo - and UNLIKE RePlay - where you can't pause
for more than 30 minutes. that's problem one. Problem two is that even if
you could, the whole buffering schema is driven by the EPG, which is a REAL
drag.

PLEASE take a lesson from RePlay. The buffer and the EPG are NOT linked
together. When I hit Pause on my RePlay, I get a bar that tells me how much
recording time I have left, basically. It'll say, "You have 18 hours 21
minutes and 12 seconds of Pause time left". This means it can span MANY,
many shows - it's not tied to the EPG!!! The Record button might be tied to
it - I'm not real sure, but the Pause isn't and the Rewind isn't!! And
shouldn't be.

This alone is causing me great grief with my wife, who likes to rewind back
several programs - on a daily basis. She doesn't want to record everything
and then have to delete it. She's not even sure she wants to watch the
program. She just likes the FREEDOM of being able to just put the thing on a
channel she likes and once in awhile rewind back a show or two.

I have to now sell her on all the other benefits of MCE, when she really
doesn't CARE about the other benefits. She just wants her rewind time,
period. the fact that perhaps I can change a registry setting to go back 2
hours is a start, but if you can't go back past the current show, it's not
everything she's used to with RePlay.

MS: Help me out here. I want to keep the TWO units I have, and I need
SOMETHING that says you guys are going to fix this. Somehow, I doubt it,
because it's a total change in the way you work, but... throw me a bone here.
 Please.

If anyone else agrees, please support this.
