Yes, onboard graphics could make a difference. Intel motherboard, I assume?
Can you check your bios and see how much RAM is allocated to the graphics
engine? It should be at least 64Mb for MCE to even function. Since you have
only 256 Mb to start with, allocating 64Mb to the graphics barely leaves you
enough, in my opinion. Not sure how to find out the specs on your hard
drive, other than see if Device Manager can give you the model number and
look it up on the internet (or pop open the case and read it off the label
on the drive). 30Gb isn't very big if it's also got the OS on it...the
average 1-hour show takes somewhere around 5-6Gb on my system. I bet if you
bumped your RAM to 512 and added a second hard drive to record on (CompUSA
had 80Gb ones for $25 yesterday, after rebate), that would help
enormously...
