WMA files can be converted to MP3, but since both WMA and MP3 are
"lossy" compression and each slightly degrades the quality, doing a
"double conversion" isn't advisable, although it is possible.
WMA has copy protection for downloaded files. For files that you encode
("rip") yourself, the copy protection can be turned off (but may be on
if you have not turned it off).
Winamp has a "wave writer" output option -- it writes whatever it plays
to a wave file (which you can then encode into an MP3 file), and Winamp
can play WMA files. So that's one way to go. Some other programs may
be able to do the conversion directly on the machine on which the music
was downloaded and can be played.
