Hi Karen,

Sorry it took me so long to respond; I've been overwhelmed with work lately
and haven't gotten much chance to respond to things online. Regardless, it
sounds to me like your DVD burner might be defective. The fact that a
destructive format did not solve the problem suggests it is a hardware
problem and not a software problem. I'm not sure how computer savvy you are,
but trying the drive in another PC would confirm if there is a problem with
the drive itself.

Did you try burning a disc immediately after the destructive format before
installing any other software? That would be a good test of the hardware
because you would know that there wasn't other software interfering with the
burning process.

You should also see if there are any new firmware updates for the drive. It
is possible that the current firmware you have simply doesn't support the new
media, or that something went wrong during the last firmware update, which
may or may not be repaired by another update.

I don't think I can be much help with convincing HP you've got a defective
burner, but it sounds like that may be what you need to do.

Hope this helps.
