Thank you so much for taking the time to give me such a detailed reply. I
am going to try to answer some of your questions about the problems I am
having. First of all, I checked the device manager using your instructions
and in the primary link under IDE DMA if available is selected. Device 0
shows transfer mode as some type of DMA but device 1 shows "not applicable"
under DMA transfer. Hmmmm. Under secondary, both device 0 and device 1
show DMA transfer. Could that be something?

I have upgraded the firmware thru HP some time back. The movie files I am
trying to burn are on my hard drive, downloaded from my digital camcorder.
I am not running programs in the background, except for antivirus, which I
believe I had even closed it out during one burn try. All the errors come
during the burning process. Rendering and preparing goes without a hitch.
I have tried Showbiz (1 successful try to about 4 failed) and I have also
tried Sony DVD Architect which did burn one try successfully. I have tried
different brands of media - Maxell and Liquid Video. Both have 1 success
and many failures. I do not get underun errors with the dvd (only trying to
burn a cd with musicmatch). The errors I get with the dvd is "unrecognized
media" after 2/3 of the disk is burned. It has suggested I try a blank disk
or different media. On the two tries that the burn was successful - the
quality was just fine when played back on my TV. This is really frustrating
and confusing. I have wasted sooooo many dvds, I can't begin to tell you.
Makes me not want to try to use the burner anymore, but that is precisely
why I bought this machine. Am really thinking of giving this one to my
daughter to take to college and getting me a new one. I have been having
this problem for 6 months and finally did a destructive format and installed
MC 2005 and was hoping that would fix it to no avail. Just can't understand
why it would burn 2/3 of the disk and then quit. On music cds - it will
show say 17 tracks, but only the first 5 or 6 will play.
Thanks again for all your input. If you have any other ideas.....
