Assuming that the video out chips were the difference (I personally doubt it
would be but who knows), the xbox hi-def pack would not have made a
difference.
You would have needed to get an xbox with a different chip (all the new ones
now use the xcalibur video out chip). The method of connection would not
have changed your video out chip (that's something inside the Xbox itself).
